Celebrate America's Passion for Cool Cars!

This coming weekend, visit us and the Owls Head Transportation Museum for the Hot Rods, Customs & Antique Aeroplanes show, June 19th and 20th, just down the road from the Inns! This two day event starts with "Breakfast with the Pioneers", an early air show featuring early 20th century aeroplanes, and brings a full day of events! The Tall Ship "Lynx" returns to Rockport Harbor…with a bang!

It's all hands on deck on June 2nd at high noon! Be part of the crowd as the welcome salute is fired from its main battery of six-pounder carronades upon its grand entrance to Rockport harbor just minutes from the Inn. The Lynx, a 122 ft. heavily armed clipper schooner is an interpretation of a naval schooner from the war of 1812. The crew wear period dress and operate the ship in keeping with the maritime traditions of early 19th century America. These ships were most effective as blockade runners and offersive weapons of war. The Lynx is on a 5 year east coast mission, scheduled to participate in the Tall Ships Challenge Series on the Great Lakes this summer and will remain on the east coast to take part in the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Star-Spangeled Banner. Built here in 2001 at Rockport Marine, the Lynx returns and will be open to the public for tours from June 3 to June 6. You can even join the crew for a sailing adventure on June 5 or June 6. A Full Moon Tonight! Celebrate on the Beach!

Celebrate on the beach as the moon rises and casts a lovely glow over the bay... There is surely something magical about the rising of the moon. On the coast of Maine it is a site to behold. Going back in human history the cycles of the moon were always closely followed and a source for rituals and celebrations. Here in Maine we've kept many traditions alive over the years. This year, throughout the spring, summer and fall, at the rising of the full moon each month there will be a celebration at Lincolnville Beach, just a few miles from the Inn. Live music and a bonfire at dusk sets the stage as mother nature takes the lead. The forecast for tonight is clear so the show should be nothing short of spectacular! Local residents and visitors will enjoy the first Full Moon Celebration of the year! Shops and restaurants will remain open too! Bring a blanket, have a picnic…and don't forget your camera!

Recipe: Fiddlehead Ferns

This delicacy is actually the shoots of the ostrich fern, found only in New England and only available for a few weeks each years! Delicious sauteed in butter, oil and seasonings, or tossed with pasta! To try them is to love them! When selecting your Fiddlehead Ferns, be sure that you buy from a organic produce or reputable famers market! Be sure to wash, wash and wash them again in cold water and trim any large stems.

To Prepare: Blanch the fiddleheads in boiling water for about 15 minutes then rinse in cold water to set the color. Drain when cool. Heat olive oil and butter in a saute pan. Add the fiddleheads and sprinkle with a good dash of kosher or sea salt. Add just a dash of balsamic vinegar. Cook until just tender. Serve immediately!

The Mother's Day Cake Walk - A Great Success!

The Cake Walk took place last weekend and proved to be lots of fun for everyone! The event took place on Saturday, and was well attended by Mom's and members of the Camden Historical Society! This year marked the first time the fundraiser brought over 100 people to tour the local inns and taste the delicious cakes and desserts prepared by innkeepers!

The decedant desserts served at the Blackberry Inn included carrot cake with a cream cheese orange topping, chocolate blackberry bundt cake with berries harvested from our blackberry patch, and the day's favorite was an old fashion yellow cake called 1-2-3-4 cake with a home made lemon curd filling and whipped cream frosting!
