Along the coast of Maine and much of New England for the past several days we have all been enjoying a January thaw with temperatures in the high 40’s. Trust me when I tell you that is considered balmy this time of year! Those warm days have been a welcome break to winter’s chilling cold but we always know it is short lived. Much colder temperatures are forecast to creep back in and that is good news as Camden’s Winterfest Festival is set for January 26, 2013.
Just a few blocks from the Inns, Camden’s amphitheater is at the center of the festival. There will be lots of activities all day with live jazz and fiddle music and great food donated by local restaurants. But the centerpiece of the event is the community ice carving. Huge crystalline blocks of ice are transformed by professionals and novices alike into amazing creations using traditional ice carving tools. Tim Pierce, Exec Chef and Master Ice Carver from Samoset Resort helps the carvers and judges the event. And if Mother Nature cooperates, there will be ice skating and sleigh rides!
Now in it’s 11th year the Winterfest Festival is just another great reason to visit Camden. Come and stay with us for the weekend! It’s a perfect New England event and such fun! We’ll help you rent a pair of skates too!
